Florida Influencer Charged After Reckless Gun Stunt in Everglades

Florida Influencer Charged After Reckless Gun Stunt in Everglades

Florida Influencer Faces Criminal Charge After Livestream Shooting Incident in the Everglades

A Florida-based social media personality known online as “Clavicular” is once again in legal jeopardy, this time over a controversial livestream filmed in one of America’s most iconic natural treasures. Authorities say the 20-year-old influencer, whose real name is Braden Eric Peters, fired a gun multiple times at a deceased alligator while broadcasting the act to his followers from the Everglades.

The episode has sparked renewed questions about influencer culture, firearm responsibility, and proper conduct on public lands. Florida wildlife officials have made it clear that even if no living animal was harmed, the handling and discharge of a firearm in a public conservation area is a serious matter under state law.

What Allegedly Happened in the Everglades

According to charging documents, the incident occurred on March 26 at the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area, part of the greater Everglades ecosystem in South Florida. The site is overseen by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), which manages conservation lands and enforces state wildlife laws.

Authorities allege that Peters was aboard an airboat when it stopped in front of a dead alligator. A video that later went viral appears to show individuals discussing whether the reptile was truly deceased. One voice is heard asking, “Should we shoot it?” Another responds in a way that suggests they were about to “test” whether the alligator was dead.

Investigators say Peters then discharged a firearm multiple times toward the animal. Although the alligator was reportedly already dead, officials emphasized that firing a weapon in a wildlife management area without legal justification or authorization can violate state law.

The FWC acknowledged on social media that it was aware of the footage and confirmed it was investigating. The agency did not initially name those involved but stated that individuals appeared to be discharging firearms at an alligator while operating an airboat within protected lands.

The Criminal Charge and Potential Penalties

Peters is facing a misdemeanor charge for discharging a firearm in public. Under Florida law, unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place can carry penalties of up to one year in jail, along with potential fines and probation. Each of the three men charged in the case could face similar consequences if convicted.

Alongside Peters, Yabdiel Anibal Cotto Torres and Andrew Morales were reportedly charged. At this stage, Peters has not been arrested but has been summoned to appear in court.

Florida maintains strict guidelines regarding firearms in conservation areas. Wildlife management areas are multi-use lands where hunting is permitted during designated seasons under strict rules. However, arbitrary firearm discharge outside lawful hunting activity can lead to criminal charges, especially when it occurs in a manner that risks public safety or violates conservation guidelines.

The FWC’s alligator management program is particularly regulated. American alligators are protected under state and federal law, and their harvest is controlled through a highly structured permit system. Even possession or handling of a dead alligator can fall under legal scrutiny depending on the circumstances.

The Role of the Licensed Airboat Guide

Peters’ attorney has stated that his client was following the instructions of a licensed airboat guide at the time of the incident. The defense contends that no animal or person was harmed and that Peters relied on the guidance of someone he believed to be acting with lawful authority.

Airboats are a common mode of transportation in the Everglades, often used for eco-tours, hunting excursions, and wildlife management activities. Commercial airboat operators must follow regulations and licensing standards established by state authorities.

The defense argues that once the “full picture” is understood, the public reaction may shift. However, prosecutors will likely focus on whether discharging a firearm under those specific circumstances complied with Florida law, regardless of who gave instructions.

An attorney representing Andrew Morales echoed a similar sentiment, urging the public to keep an open mind and stating that there is currently no claim that any live animal was injured.

The Everglades: A National Treasure

The alleged incident did not take place in a random swamp but within one of America’s most critical ecosystems. The Everglades National Park and surrounding conservation areas form a vast subtropical wilderness unique to the United States.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Everglades provide habitat to numerous protected species and represent decades of conservation efforts funded by American taxpayers. State-managed wildlife management areas like Francis S. Taylor are integral to broader restoration initiatives aimed at preserving water quality, wildlife corridors, and public recreation opportunities.

The American alligator itself is a conservation success story. Once endangered due to overhunting and habitat loss, it was removed from the federal Endangered Species List in 1987 after extensive recovery efforts by state and federal wildlife agencies.

Incidents that appear to show careless firearm use in such sensitive areas inevitably draw public attention, particularly when broadcast online for entertainment.

Influencer Culture Meets Criminal Accountability

Peters is part of a growing niche of internet personalities associated with “looksmaxxing,” an online trend that promotes physical enhancement, aesthetics, and self-image transformation. The trend has drawn criticism from medical professionals and cultural commentators alike, with concerns about unrealistic body standards and risky behavior for online clout.

The alleged shooting incident underscores another troubling element of influencer culture: the drive to produce viral content at virtually any cost.

Social media platforms reward engagement — shares, comments, controversy — often amplifying shocking or extreme behavior. In some cases, influencers push legal or ethical boundaries in pursuit of visibility and monetization.

The result is a growing list of online personalities facing real-world consequences for stunts carried out in public spaces.

A Pattern of Legal Issues

The latest charge is not Peters’ first brush with the law. Earlier this year, he was arrested in Fort Lauderdale on charges tied to alleged battery and criminal conspiracy in Osceola County, Florida.

According to statements issued by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported altercation at an Airbnb property near Kissimmee. A 19-year-old woman claimed she had been battered by another individual identified as Violet Marie Lentz, reportedly Peters’ girlfriend at the time.

Investigators later alleged that Peters instigated the confrontation and posted video of the altercation online in an effort to exploit the individuals involved for content. Peters was taken into custody on a $1,000 bond. A warrant was also issued for Lentz on a misdemeanor battery charge.

While these prior allegations are separate from the Everglades case, they form part of a broader narrative: a young influencer repeatedly colliding with law enforcement amid headline-grabbing online activity.

Public Lands Are Not Content Studios

One broader lesson emerging from this controversy is the importance of respecting America’s public lands. Wildlife management areas and national parks exist for conservation, recreation, and lawful outdoor activity — not as backdrops for reckless stunts.

Florida’s wildlife laws are designed to balance:

  • Conservation of animal species
  • Safe public access to natural areas
  • Regulated hunting and firearm use
  • Protection of citizens and visitors

When firearms are discharged outside lawful hunting parameters or without clear necessity, it raises safety concerns for others in the area. Even in vast landscapes like the Everglades, stray bullets can pose real risks to people and wildlife alike.

For law-abiding gun owners — the overwhelming majority of American firearm owners — responsible use is a pillar of credibility. Incidents that suggest cavalier handling of firearms undermine the strong safety culture embraced by millions of patriotic citizens.

The Legal Process Moving Forward

As of now, the case remains in its early stages. Peters and his co-defendants will have the opportunity to contest the charge in court. Prosecutors must prove that the discharge of the firearm met the legal standard for criminal violation under Florida statutes.

If convicted of a first-degree misdemeanor, each defendant could face:

  • Up to 12 months in county jail
  • Probation
  • Fines
  • Potential restrictions on firearm possession

The outcome will likely hinge on factors such as:

  • Whether the firing was legally justified
  • Whether proper permits or authority existed
  • The exact location and conditions of discharge
  • Any risk posed to public safety

A Reminder About Responsibility in the Digital Age

America is a nation built on liberty, including the freedom to bear arms and the freedom of speech. But those freedoms come with responsibility and accountability under the law.

Influencers, like any other citizens, are subject to the same statutes that govern firearm use, wildlife protection, and public conduct. Viral fame does not shield anyone from legal consequences.

As social media continues to blur the line between entertainment and real life, this case serves as a cautionary tale. When content creation spills into potential criminal activity — especially on protected public lands — authorities will intervene.

For now, the court system will determine whether Peters’ actions crossed the legal line. But one fact is clear: America’s natural resources and public safety regulations deserve respect, not reckless experimentation for clicks.

Wake Up America News will continue monitoring developments in this case and provide updates as they become available.
