Florida Sheriff Crushes Trafficking Ring, 266 Arrested in Massive Sting

Florida Sheriff Crushes Trafficking Ring, 266 Arrested in Massive Sting

Florida Sheriff’s Sweeping Prostitution Sting Nets 266 Arrests, Highlights Broader Public Safety Concerns

In one of the largest coordinated undercover operations in recent Florida history, Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) announced 266 arrests tied to prostitution, human trafficking activity, and individuals accused of attempting to solicit minors for sex.

Sheriff Grady Judd, long known for his blunt briefings and zero-tolerance approach to crime, detailed the results of the multi-agency effort dubbed “Operation Polk Around and Find Out.” The arrests, made in Polk County, Florida, involved suspects from across the country and around the world — and included several high-profile individuals whose backgrounds drew national attention.

Beyond the headlines, the operation underscores a broader reality: prostitution and human trafficking are not victimless crimes. According to the U.S. Department of Justice Human Trafficking initiative, sex trafficking remains one of the most persistent and damaging criminal enterprises nationwide, often intertwined with organized crime, drug trafficking, and exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

A Massive Multi-Agency Operation

The PCSO reported that of the 266 total arrests:

  • 247 were directly related to prostitution or human trafficking activity
  • 19 involved suspects accused of attempting to meet minors for sexual encounters
  • 34 of those arrested were in the United States illegally

Authorities emphasized that the individuals arrested collectively had more than 1,000 prior criminal charges on their records. During the course of the operation, deputies added 439 new charges connected to the sting.

Participants in the operation came from 11 different states and 18 countries, highlighting the interstate and international nature of prostitution and trafficking networks. The arrests were carried out in cooperation with federal, state, and local agencies, reinforcing how large-scale enforcement efforts require coordination across jurisdictions.

Polk County, located in central Florida between Lakeland and Orlando, has been a recurring battleground in Florida’s fight against trafficking and exploitation. The region’s major highways and tourism infrastructure make it a frequent target for illicit activity.

Human Trafficking Is Not “Low-Level Crime”

Sheriff Judd pushed back firmly against the idea that prostitution-related offenses are minor or nonviolent.

“People think this is low-level and not violent,” he stated. “That’s wrong. It is violent, and it’s dangerous.”

His position aligns with federal findings. According to the U.S. Department of State’s human trafficking overview, sex trafficking frequently involves coercion, psychological manipulation, substance abuse control, and financial exploitation. Even when a transaction appears “consensual,” underlying coercion or economic desperation often plays a central role.

Law enforcement officials argue that targeting demand — the buyers — is key to dismantling human trafficking rings. Without customers, the market collapses. That philosophy formed the backbone of this operation.

High-Profile Arrest: Jan. 6 Participant

Among those singled out by Sheriff Judd was Ryan Yates of Odessa, Florida. According to Judd, Yates had previously been convicted in connection with the events of January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and later received a pardon.

While Judd noted that federal proceedings related to Jan. 6 had concluded for Yates, he made clear that local law enforcement would not look the other way regarding new allegations.

The message from the sheriff’s office was direct: prior political controversy or media attention does not place anyone above the law at the county level. Local accountability remains local.

Social Media Influencer and Business Owner Arrested

Another name highlighted during the press conference was Craig Long II, a 41-year-old fitness business owner from the Tampa area who has described himself on social media as a “MAGA influencer.”

Long has maintained an active online presence, marketing fitness and lifestyle content alongside political commentary. Sheriff Judd referenced the influencer’s public persona while announcing the arrest, suggesting that living publicly comes with greater scrutiny.

The case serves as a reminder that public branding — whether political, entrepreneurial, or social — offers no insulation from criminal investigation. For conservative voters in particular, the incident reinforces a core principle long championed on the right: personal responsibility must apply universally, regardless of political alignment.

Illegal Immigration Element

Authorities also announced that 34 individuals arrested during the sting were in the United States illegally.

One case that drew attention involved Uno Garcia, described by the sheriff as a Cuban national in the country unlawfully. According to investigators, Garcia allegedly brought his wife to engage in prostitution.

Immigration status intersecting with criminal conduct remains a flashpoint issue nationwide. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency routinely partners with local jurisdictions in cases where non-citizens are charged with criminal offenses. However, enforcement policies vary by region.

For many Americans, the inclusion of illegal immigrants among those arrested underscores ongoing concerns about border enforcement and vetting. Others argue that the broader focus should remain on the crime itself and the protection of victims.

Cases Involving Children Raise Alarms

Perhaps the most disturbing elements of the operation involved suspects who allegedly placed children in direct proximity to sexual activity.

In one case, Shannon Brooks of Haines City allegedly brought a 7-year-old child into a room during a sexual encounter and directed the child to wait in a bathroom. In another case, Derek Partita, 37, allegedly left a 10-year-old child in a vehicle while attempting to meet a prostitute.

Additionally, 19 individuals were arrested specifically over accusations they were attempting to engage in sexual activity with minors.

The exploitation of children remains a top enforcement priority nationwide. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children reports tens of thousands of tips annually related to suspected child sexual exploitation. Operations like the one in Polk County aim to intercept predators before crimes escalate into long-term victimization.

For families across Florida and the nation, these cases cut to the heart of parental fears: the safety of children in a digital age where online solicitation has become increasingly common.

Security Clearance and Public Trust

Sheriff Judd also noted the arrest of J.R. Jackman, 27, who he said held a high-level military security clearance.

Although details of his employment were not fully elaborated at the briefing, the allegation raises broader concerns about vetting, accountability, and conduct expectations for those entrusted with sensitive national security positions.

The U.S. Department of Defense maintains stringent clearance standards tied to personal conduct, financial responsibility, and susceptibility to coercion. Engaging in prostitution-related offenses can be viewed as creating vulnerability to blackmail or foreign manipulation — a longstanding counterintelligence concern.

Abuse of Public Resources

Another suspect, Salvador Villarel, was described as a county utilities employee who allegedly arrived at the location in a government vehicle.

Judd stated that Villarel no longer has access to county resources and now faces jail time.

Misuse of taxpayer-funded vehicles or property amplifies public frustration when government employees are implicated in criminal behavior. For many citizens, it represents not just personal misconduct but misuse of public trust and resources funded by hardworking Americans.

Targeting Demand to Disrupt Networks

One of the defining features of this sting operation was its focus on buyers, not just facilitators. Law enforcement experts frequently stress that reducing demand is one of the most effective ways to combat trafficking networks.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, coordinated undercover operations identifying and arresting purchasers can significantly disrupt trafficking patterns by raising the risks and costs associated with engaging in illegal sex markets.

By publicizing names and details, Sheriff Judd’s office sends a deterrent message. Critics argue that public shaming may be controversial, but proponents maintain that transparency reinforces accountability.

A Pattern of Aggressive Enforcement in Polk County

This is not the first large-scale anti-trafficking operation undertaken by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. PCSO has frequently conducted undercover stings aimed at reducing prostitution, rescuing exploited individuals, and identifying traffickers.

Florida as a whole has taken significant legislative steps against trafficking. The Florida Attorney General’s Office continues to support task forces, enhanced penalties, and victim services programs.

Supporters of the sheriff say that consistent, highly visible enforcement sends a message that central Florida will not tolerate exploitation.

The Bigger Picture

Prostitution and trafficking intersect with multiple societal issues:

  • Illegal immigration enforcement
  • Online exploitation and social media use
  • Child safety and family instability
  • National security vulnerabilities
  • Drug dependency and organized crime

Operations like “Polk Around and Find Out” are designed not only to arrest individuals but to expose the scale of the problem.

While critics of aggressive sting tactics sometimes argue these operations can be controversial, law enforcement leaders maintain that they deter future offenses and uncover hidden victimization.

Cases Pending and Due Process Ahead

Officials stressed that all charges remain allegations and that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Each case will now proceed through Florida’s judicial system, where prosecutors must present evidence and meet the burden of proof.

Still, the message delivered by Sheriff Judd was unmistakable: in Polk County, prostitution and exploitation will be aggressively targeted, regardless of political affiliation, online following, employment status, or prior criminal history.

Law and Order as a Cornerstone

For many Americans, particularly those who prioritize public safety, family stability, and border security, the results of this operation reinforce a law-and-order philosophy.

Crime tied to exploitation and human trafficking strikes at the moral foundation of communities. Addressing it requires coordination, consistent enforcement, and a willingness to pursue uncomfortable cases that involve high-profile or politically sensitive individuals.

As Sheriff Judd made clear, enforcement in Polk County does not stop at headlines. It continues with investigations, court proceedings, and sustained operations designed to protect the vulnerable and uphold the rule of law.

In a time when many communities across the country are debating the proper balance between civil liberties and aggressive law enforcement, Polk County has chosen its path: confront exploitation head-on, publicize the results, and hold offenders accountable.

For supporters, that approach represents exactly what they expect from local leadership — firm, transparent, and unwavering when it comes to protecting families and defending public safety.
