Energy Independence: A National Security Imperative
The following is an opinion piece and does not necessarily reflect the editorial position of Wake Up America News.
For decades, America's dependence on foreign oil left our nation vulnerable to the whims of hostile foreign governments and volatile global markets. The lesson should be clear: energy independence isn't merely an economic goal — it is a fundamental pillar of our national security.
When America produces its own energy, we are not beholden to nations that may not share our interests or values. We are not vulnerable to supply disruptions caused by conflicts in distant regions. We are free to make foreign policy decisions based on American interests, not energy dependence.
The Case for Domestic Production
The United States sits on some of the largest energy reserves in the world. Our combined reserves of oil, natural gas, and coal are sufficient to power our economy for generations. The technology to extract these resources safely and efficiently has advanced dramatically in recent years.
Domestic energy production also means American jobs — good-paying jobs in extraction, refining, transportation, and the vast supply chains that support these industries. These are jobs that cannot be outsourced, and they strengthen communities across the heartland.
"A nation that cannot power itself is a nation at the mercy of others. America must never be in that position."
The path forward is clear: embrace an all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes traditional fossil fuels, nuclear power, and emerging technologies. This is not an either-or proposition — it is a comprehensive approach to ensuring America's energy future is secure, affordable, and independent.
