Georgia Cyber Offender Accused of Targeting Pro Athletes in Shocking Fraud and Sex Trafficking Scheme
A convicted cybercriminal from Georgia is once again in the spotlight — this time accused of orchestrating a disturbing scheme that allegedly targeted professional athletes in the NBA and NFL, spiraling from online fraud into what federal prosecutors describe as sex trafficking and exploitation.
Kwamaine Jerell Ford, 34, of Buford, Georgia, now faces a sweeping federal indictment that includes nine counts of wire fraud, seven counts of computer fraud, one count of access device fraud, four counts of aggravated identity theft, and one count of sex trafficking. According to officials in the Northern District of Georgia, the charges reveal a calculated and deeply troubling pattern of deception.
Ford pleaded not guilty in federal court and will remain behind bars without bail as he awaits trial.
A Pattern of Criminal Behavior
Federal authorities say the scheme began in November 2020 — while Ford was already incarcerated in federal prison for a prior phishing operation. In 2019, he had been convicted of stealing financial information and racking up nearly $325,000 in fraudulent spending.
Despite serving time, prosecutors allege Ford doubled down on criminal conduct. Investigators claim he targeted NBA and NFL players by posing online as a well-known adult film actress. Under that fake identity, he allegedly offered to send explicit videos in exchange for access to the athletes’ Apple account credentials.
At the same time, Ford is accused of impersonating legitimate Apple customer support representatives. Using the personal information he unlawfully gathered, investigators say he accessed private data and financial details connected to the victims’ accounts.
Dozens of individuals were reportedly deceived into handing over login information. Prosecutors allege Ford then used stolen credit and debit card data to finance thousands of dollars in personal purchases.
Disturbing Allegations of Exploitation
According to court filings, the alleged scheme took an even darker turn months later. Prosecutors say Ford again assumed the false identity of an adult film star — this time to manipulate and coerce a woman into engaging in commercial sex acts with multiple professional athletes.
The indictment alleges that Ford lured the woman with promises of advancing her modeling career. Instead, officials say, he arranged meetings with athletes, handled travel logistics, negotiated payments, and took a cut of the earnings.
Authorities further claim that Ford used fake online personas to intimidate and pressure the woman into continuing the activity. In some instances, the encounters were allegedly recorded without the knowledge or consent of the athletes involved.
"While serving time for stealing credit card numbers from athletes and celebrities to fund his lifestyle, Ford allegedly engaged in the same conduct again," said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. "Disturbingly, the indictment alleges that Ford went even further and used a fraudulent online persona to traffic a young woman and coerce her to produce hidden camera videos of commercial sex acts with unknowing individuals."
Law Enforcement Vows Accountability
Federal investigators say this case highlights the evolving threat of cybercrime — especially when criminals exploit technology and social media to manipulate victims for financial and personal gain.
FBI Georgia Acting Special Agent in Charge Peter Ellis made clear that law enforcement remains committed to protecting Americans from such predatory schemes.
"Kwamaine Ford clearly did not learn from his prior conviction for a similar scheme," Ellis said. "This time, he allegedly escalated his criminal activity—stealing identities and money while also moving into coercion and sex trafficking. The FBI’s dedicated agents remain committed to staying ahead of schemes like this and protecting the public from individuals who exploit and harm others for personal gain."
The investigation remains ongoing.
