Unspeakable Tragedy in Ohio: Mother Charged After Two Young Girls Found Buried in Suitcases

A horrific crime has shaken the heartland of America. Authorities in Cleveland, Ohio, have charged a 28-year-old mother with two counts of aggravated murder after the bodies of her young daughters were discovered buried in separate suitcases in shallow graves earlier this week.

Aliyah Henderson now faces the full force of the law following the heartbreaking deaths of 8-year-old Mila Chatman and her 10-year-old half-sister, Amor Wilson. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identities of the girls through DNA testing. As of now, officials have not released their causes of death.

The grim discovery was made Monday evening in a field near East 162nd Street and Midland Avenue, close to Ginn Academy. A concerned citizen walking his dog noticed a partially buried suitcase and immediately contacted authorities. Responding officers uncovered a shallow grave containing a deceased individual. As they canvassed the area, they found a second suitcase buried nearby, revealing yet another devastating loss.

This is the kind of story no community ever wants to hear — the brutal loss of innocent children whose lives were only just beginning.

A Father’s Grief and a Broken System

Mila’s father, DeShaun Chatman, spoke out after investigators informed him that his daughter was among the victims. His pain is unimaginable. For years, he had been fighting to regain custody of Mila, seeking emergency custody multiple times over the past five years.

According to Chatman, he had not seen his daughter since 2020, when she was just 3 years old. He said he attempted to track her down through child welfare services but was unable to locate her because he did not know where she was living.

“Mila was happy-go-lucky, always smiling,” he said. “Her favorite color was pink — she swore that she was a princess. She was always happy. She was a kid’s kid.”

In a statement filled with heartbreak, Chatman said he felt helpless and devastated, expressing that he wished he could have saved his little girl. In a cruel twist, he later learned that Mila had ultimately been living near the very field where her remains were found.

Law Enforcement Responds Swiftly

Law enforcement officials moved quickly once the bodies were discovered. Henderson was taken into custody Wednesday evening and formally charged with aggravated murder. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare their case.

Authorities also located another child inside a residence connected to the investigation. Officials reported that the child appeared to be in good health and has since been placed into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd described the discovery as a “terrible, horrific situation,” acknowledging the trauma experienced not only by officers on the scene but by the entire community.

There is no question that crimes like these cut deep. They challenge the very foundation of what we hold sacred in this country — the protection of our children and the strength of the American family.

Justice for Mila and Amor

As Ohio mourns the loss of Mila and Amor, many Americans are once again reminded of the importance of vigilance, accountability, and a justice system that stands firmly for victims. Two young girls who should have been safe, loved, and protected instead met a tragic end.

The people of Cleveland — and the nation — now look toward the courts for justice. Mila, who loved pink and believed she was a princess, and Amor, whose life was cut short far too soon, deserve nothing less.

This devastating case remains under investigation. For now, a grieving father, a shaken community, and a watching nation pray that truth prevails and justice is served.
